Neil Lennon and Olivier Ntcham in Celtic clear-the-air as manager reveals talks

Neil Lennon insists he has cleared the air with Olivier Ntcham after the Frenchman let rip at Scottish football and his frustrations at missing out on a move to Porto.

Ntcham returned to Celtic training on Monday after an extended summer break in which he was on international duty with France U21s.

The midfielder - a reported target for Marseille and Porto again this summer - faced showdown talks with Lennon over his comments in French paper L'Equipe.

In the article he suggested Scottish football wasn't challenging enough as he expressed his frustration at missing out on a move to Porto last summer.

Now Lennon has lifted the lid on his meeting with the Frenchman - and insists he is very much in his plans for the upcoming season.

"He was disappointed with the way it came across, that wasn't his intention," Lennon said.

"We have had a nice chat, a private chat, and it's not an issue now. He is back in the group and training and getting ready for the new season."

Lennon expects Ntcham to be available for Celtic's second European qualifier as he gets up to speed.

"It shouldn't take long, he has only had a two-and-a-half or three-week break," he added.

"He was playing in the Euro Under-21 Championship. It was his first day on Monday and he looked in reasonable condition.

"Obviously he has a bit of work to do but hopefully we will have him available for next week."

Ntcham set the cat among the pigeons with his explosive comments earlier this month.

He said: "Celtic has given me a lot, but it's the best solution for my development. We can do as many matches as we want but, with all due respect for my opponents, if the level in front is not high, you do not progress.

"I was really disappointed not to have gone to Porto last summer.

"What could be the perfect stage for me? A big championship: Germany, France, Spain - coming back to France would be something very, very good.

"The interest of the Marseille? It is flattering. It is a very big club with very big support. If I went to Marseille, I would blossom, I have always signed for clubs with lots of fans."
