Neil Lennon agrees with Mikel Arteta on Arsenal's £25m summer transfer after Burnley win

Former Celtic boss Neil Lennon was full of praise for Aaron Ramsdale's performance after Arsenal's 1-0 win at Burnley.

Ramsdale, who joined the club from Sheffield United in the summer for a transfer fee of around £25million, has yet to concede in the two league games he’s played since taking over from Bernd Leno - and Mikel Arteta’s side have now taken six points from their last two games.

Arsenal had lost their opening three Premier League fixtures but are now up to 12th after securing consecutive 1-0 victories - over Norwich City and the Clarets.

Ramsdale was commanding in his box throughout against a physical Burnley side, and will be hoping to keep his place in between the sticks for next weekend's North London Derby against Tottenham Hotspur.

The former Sheffield United goalkeeper's transfer was met with some scepticism from fans after back-to-back relegations and a heft transfer fee, but the stopper is doing all he can to prove the doubters wrong.

Former Hoops boss Lennon was critical of Burnley’s display on the afternoon, but singled out Ramsdale for praise after his "excellent" performance at Turf Moor.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: "Huge three points for Arsenal. Burnley wasted 45 minutes, the second half was more like them. But they’ll have regrets about this game for sure.

"At the time, I didn’t think it was a penalty [against Matej Vydra]. I thought Aaron Ramsdale was excellent. Clean sheet, another 1-0 win, it is like the Arsenal of old!"

Gunners boss Arteta joined Lennon in praising the 23-year-old for an all-round impressive display.

"This is his character, his leadership, how he presents himself as a person," said Arteta, when asked about Ramsdale commanding his own box.

"I like that he has a presence and he dominates his area."

On Arsenal’s win, the Gunners boss added: "It was a hard-fought victory at a really tough place. You have to be ready for a fight."
