Neil Lennon admits 'no sympathy' for Rangers as he toasts Celtic title win

Celtic manager Neil Lennon insists he has no sympathy for league runners-up Rangers after the Scottish top flight was ended early.

Lennon's men scooped a ninth title in a row after a SPFL board meeting on Monday with the blessing of all 12 Premiership clubs.

Celtic held a 13 point advantage over their Glasgow rivals but, on paper, could have been caught in the games that remained when football was suspended due to Covid-19.

But Lennon is adamant that no "right-minded" person ever truly believed Steven Gerrard's side were capable of catching the Celts.

Speaking to  talkSPORT, Lennon said: "I've no sympathy at all, really. I doubt any right-minded person would have envisaged Rangers catching us.

"Not only were we 13 points clear but we had a 25 goal difference as well so you can easily say we were 14 points clear.

"The only sympathy I have is for my own players in terms of they never got the chance to play out the season.

"They were also in the semi-final of the Scottish Cup as well and we were going for a fourth treble.

"Unfortunately that was taken away from them for the time being.

"We may get the chance later on to play the Scottish Cup but in terms of the league championship it was only going, in our minds, to one place and we were planning ahead for that eventuality."
