The owner of a historic car is hoping Perthshire Advertiser readers can fill him in on the history of the vehicle.
Neil Baker is a proud owner of a 1923 Daimler.
Whilst Neil lives on Islay, the car spent much of its existence around Aberfeldy and Kenmore.
It was gifted to Neil when the previous owners died a few years ago
It is believed the car was originally purchased to carry visitors from Taymouth Castle up to Loch Tay.
It then went into the hands of the provost of Aberfeldy, JD Haggart. It is understood that upon the death of the provost, the car was bought by one of his business partners from the provost’s widow.
Neil said: “It is a lovely old car and I really want to get to understand its history better.
“I was told everything I know about the Daimler by the previous keeper, but we never sat down together and firmed up the car’s story before he passed away.
“I would love to see if there are any pictures of the car out there.
“I was told Provost Haggart used to travel to Perth in it on civic occasions.
“It has a special hangar for top hats inside the cabin.
“It is quite possible there are pictures or reports of the provost on civic duties around Aberfeldy, Kenmore and wider Perthshire.
“It also spent some time at Taymouth Castle so there could be a lead there.”
Neil has dubbed the car ‘Domhnall’, which is Gaelic for ‘Donald’.
It has a six cylinder petrol engine, a bench seat at the front for the chauffeur and a comfy bench seat for the passengers. It also features an electric intercom between the driver and passenger.
The chassis was built in Coventry but the coachwork is by top Scottish company Croall and Croall of Edinburgh.
Neil said: “Sadly the car is not in the best of mechanical health but I do take it out for the occasional spin to keep the wheels turning.”
