Neil Harris on exploiting Leeds United's fans and a biased referee behind hosts' dominance

Neil Harris knew his Cardiff City team could prey on nerves among Leeds United supporters at 3-2 to seal their unlikely comeback at Elland Road.

The Bluebirds boss also pointed the finger at referee Tony Harrington for swaying the match in the favour of Marcelo Bielsa’s side during a game the Whites led from the sixth minute until the 88th.

Harris, who has regularly been outspoken on the Whites over the years, also hinted Patrick Bamford may have bought his second-half penalty.

“Leeds outclassed us, with shooting ourselves in the foot as well, but outclassed us in the first 32 minutes,” he said.

“We made a tactical change, switched Tommo (Lee Tomlin) and Joe Ralls over, positionally, and it gave us a foothold.

“For 10 minutes before half-time we could have scored four goals. So, as much as we could have conceded more than we did, we had four very, very good chances.

“That gave the boys the belief, that little tactical change. [I] expected us to be better second half, however, we give another poor goal away.

“The third one. Has he bought it, Patrick? He’s clever in those situations. If there’s contact then it’s a foul.

“We kept going. The fourth goal was key, getting back to 3-1. [It] allowed us to play a little on the front foot. I knew the crowd would get a little bit edgy at 3-2.

“The referee done his absolute best to try and help Leeds this afternoon with a lot of the  decisions he gave or didn’t give us.

“I’ve seen the red card. We’ll appeal it, I’m pretty sure. I’ve seen it from different angles. I don’t think it’s particularly dangerous.

“It’s late, yes it’s late because the player’s just quicker than him, so I’ve got no issue with the foul and a yellow card, but reckless or dangerous? No it’s not.”
