Neil Doncaster banned from Partick Thistle trophy presentation as Hearts' allies take a stand

Neil Doncaster was in Gorgie to see Hearts receive the Championship trophy, but fellow demotees Partick Thistle have banned him from Firhill.

The League One winners were banished to a lower division last summer and fought alongside the Jambos in a bid to have the decision overturned in court, but were ultimately defeated by an arbitration panel.

Both clubs won promotion back to the Premiership and Championship respectively at the first time of asking and Robbie Neilson’s squad were presented with their trophy after beating Inverness CT at Tynecastle a week past Saturday.

Doncaster, Scottish FA CEO Ian Maxwell and other representatives were in attendance although took to part in the presentation ceremony.

Many fans had called on Hearts not to accept the trophy, but the decision was taken to do so.

The Jags were confirmed as league winners after a thumping 5-0 defeat of Falkirk last Thursday, and will lift the trophy after tomorrow’s match against Monstrose.

But manager Ian McCall confirmed that Doncaster and any reps from the governing bodies won’t be welcome at Firhill after describing the governence of the Scottish game as “incompetent for decades”.

He told BBC Sportsound: "It'll be eerie getting the trophy on Wednesday and all the players get their medals.

"Luckily for us the club and me were in complete agreement because nobody from the SFA and the SPFL will be allowed in the stadium, which is great.

"That's happening, they're not allowed in the stadium. Simple as that."

When asked if that meant Neil Doncaster is banned from the ground, McCall replied: "Yes. They won't be allowed in.

"I'm not going to go into all that tonight, but the reason I said to Chick (Young) about love and peace was Chic [Young] was doing what he should be doing, trying to prod me and get things.

"But is it really going to make a difference? Is the governance going to change when it's been incompetent for decades now?

"Is it going to change? I don't know, we just need to try and look after ourselves and try and win another title next season."

Doncaster prompted an angry response from Hearts fans when he congratulated them on winning the title, and his text to McCall and chief exec Gerry Britton was no better received.

The Thistle boss added: "Do you know what really worries me? Myself and my chief executive Gerry Britton got texts from Neil Doncaster saying, 'congratulations, worthy champions'.

"That level of... just not knowing what's going on, not understanding, closing your eyes to a situation, is bewildering!

"Did I reply? Absolutely not! He can think better than to send a text to the bloody manager of Partick Thistle!"
