Neighbours wanted a 'quiet night in' before car crashed into house

People living on a street where a car dramatically crashed into a house were planning "a quiet night in" before the shocking incident.

Just before 4pm on Saturday, the driver of a blue Mercedes crashed into a property on Kirklake Road in Formby. A police cordon was set up along the road and emergency services remained on the quiet street until 10pm this evening.

The incident caused a stir in the area with locals saying "nothing really happens here" and it was all a bit "crazy". Currently, the condition of the driver is unknown. They had to be cut from the car by firefighters and were taken to hospital.

Speaking to the ECHO one local woman said: "Honestly at first I had no idea what had happened. Then I heard sirens going off and an air ambulance coming from somewhere.

"All of a sudden there was a big commotion and police cars were coming down the road and it was supposed to be a quiet night in. Nothing really happens around here so it was all a bit crazy."

While the driver of the car was taken to hospital by an ambulance, the passenger was unharmed and the occupant of the house was treated at the scene for shock.

One man who drove passed the crash just after it happened said: "Everything seemed okay and there were some bricks on the road. Nobody looked to be hurt to me at the time and police were just starting to show up. There was just noise coming from all over the street."

A spokesperson for Merseyside Fire & Rescue Service said: "Crews were alerted at 3.53pm and on scene at 3.57pm. Two fire engines attended as well as the search and rescue appliance. On arrival, crews found one vehicle had collided with a house.

"The driver of the vehicle was still inside and was extricated by firefighters. First aid was provided at the scene before the driver was handed into the care of paramedics and taken to hospital for further treatment.

"The passenger of the vehicle was already out when crews arrived and was unharmed. The occupant of the house was treated at the scene for shock."

"A structural engineer from Sefton Council has been requested to assess damage to the property. Fire crews began leaving the scene at 5.07pm, with the incident handed over to Merseyside Police.
