Neighbours urged to keep windows and doors shut after fire breaks out at recycling centre

Neighbours were urged to keep windows and doors shut after a fire broke out at a recycling centre in Tameside.

Fire crews were called to the site on Bayley Street in Stalybridge at about 6.40am on Wednesday.

Around 15 firefighters spent around three hours at the scene.

Greater Manchester Fire and Rescue Service tweeted: "We currently have three fire engines responding to a fire at a recycling centre on Bayley Street in Stalybridge.

"Local residents are advised to keep their doors and windows shut as we deal with this incident."

A spokesperson for GMFRS later added: "At 6.38am on Wednesday, June 9, three fire engines from Stalybridge, Ashton-under-Lyne and Hyde were called to reports of a fire at a recycling centre on Bayley Street, Stalybridge.

"Firefighters wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire using two hose reels. Fire crews were in attendance for approximately three hours."
