Neighbours told to close windows as six crews deal with bus fire

Neighbours were told to close their windows as firefighters tackled a large blaze last night.

Six crews fought the fire, which had taken hold of a derelict bus and a significant amount of waste.

Work continued for more than two hours at the site on Dock Road South in Bromborough.

Merseyside Fire and Rescue Service was alerted to the fire at 9.17pm on Sunday.

It took three minutes for crews to arrive at the scene.

Residents and businesses close by were told to keep windows and doors closed during the incident, while drivers were told to avoid the area.

The fire had been split into three areas while it was being tackled and, by 11.30pm, work had been completed in one but remained ongoing in the other two.

Crews were hopeful the rest of the blaze would be extinguished quickly, however.

*Anyone in the area with existing medical conditions was asked to keep medicines nearby and, if they felt any effects that may have been caused by the incident, to call NHS 111 helpline
