Neighbours speak of their shock after body found in woods near residential street in Arnold

Shocked neighbours have paid their respects after police found a body in woodland near their homes.

Officers who were called just before 1pm made the discovery on land near Killisick Lane, Arnold.

Police aren't treating the death as suspicious but officers remained at the scene on Saturday afternoon (January 16).

Local residents spoke of their shock after it emerged police had discovered a body.

Mick Jones, 58, who works for the NHS, and lives in the nearby Howbeck Road, said: “I saw somebody coming off the Killisick Lane, come off the bridlepath off Killisick Lane.

“I asked them if they knew what was happening, they said they did not but they have just seen police and paramedics heading across the fields.

“Obviously it’s a shock and sad news hearing something like this has happened locally. Thoughts go out to the family.”

Paul Stones, 54, a depot manager of Coppice Road, Arnold, said: “It’s obviously a shame whoever it is. Condolences.

"It’s someone’s relative somewhere down the line.”

Other neighbours described seeing the emergency services.

Alex Cooling, 64, a retired supervisor, of Howbeck Road, explained her daughter called her because she had seen a picture on social media of police and ambulances near her mum's home.

Mrs Cooling said: “As I came back from shopping there were three police cars, two ambulances and two paramedic cars.

“I came in, I said to my husband ‘what is happening?’

"I had to park across the road, I could not get on the drive.

“My daughter was trying to ring me, she had seen it on Facebook, obviously the picture somebody put up you can see our house.

"She was panicking saying ‘is everything all right’?”

Retired Joyce Watson, 72, who used to work in social services, and lives in Arnold, said: “You do wonder what is happening.

"We have just walked along Mapperley Top, there were police cars and sirens, they turned down towards this estate.

"That was about half an hour ago. We have been out for a two-hour walk. I did not hear anything earlier.

“I have lived here for 45 years and it’s not a bad area.”

Detective Sergeant Jamie Moore, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: “Whilst we don’t believe this man’s death to be suspicious we will continue to carry out enquiries on behalf of the coroner.”
