Neighbours 'shocked' after woman's body found on 'quietest street in England'

Neighbours have spoken of their shock after a woman's body was found in a "quiet" Bishopston street.

Police officers were called to Melbourne Road on Friday (June 14) and remained in the area over the weekend.

Several residents living nearby reported seeing police cars, forensics vans and ambulances on both Saturday and Sunday.

A police car remained outside the property on today (June 17).

Avon and Somerset Constabulary has confirmed the death is being treated as "unexplained" after post-mortem results proved inconclusive.

One neighbour, who wished to remain anonymous, described the incident as "a shock".

"Police have come and gone but all the time there's been a police car sitting outside the house, watching what's going on," she said.

"Officers came round and said somebody had passed away and that they were trying to find out what happened.

"It's a shock but I didn't think it was anything untoward."

One man added: "I saw three police cars on Saturday but I didn't think it was a big deal.

"It's the quietest street in England."

One neighbour said she saw ambulances and forensic vans during the course of the weekend.

"On Sunday (June 16) the forensic vans turned up and that was about it," she said.

"I spoke to the police yesterday and all they said is that there's been an incident.

"It's bizarre - we never get any incidents like this really."

What the police said

A police spokesperson said enquiries into the death are ongoing.

"We were called to reports of the body of a woman at a property in Melbourne Road in Bishopston on Friday (June 14) at about 8.40pm," he said.

"The death is still being treated as unexplained after the result of a post-mortem was inconclusive.

Toxicology tests will now be carried out which could take several weeks.

"Police enquiries into the death are continuing."
