Neighbours say Treharris RFC's annual presentation is too noisy

There has been an objection to a proposed rugby club presentation event in Merthyr Tydfil because of concerns over noise.

Treharris RFC has applied for a temporary event notice for its annual presentation event on May 10, 11 and 12 which is set to take place within a marquee on the club grounds in New Forest Road.

The proposed hours for the sale of alcohol and regulated entertainment are from 6pm to 11pm on Friday, May 10, from 1pm to 11pm on Saturday, May 11, and Sunday, May 12, from 5pm to 9pm.

But the council’s environmental health department has raised its opposition to the event because of noise issues at previous similar events.

Their response says:  “There have been a number of complaints from residents living within the vicinity in the past and is highly likely to cause a nuisance.”

Treharris RFC last submitted an application for a temporary event notice in March 2016, with the event due to be held on the weekend of May 20-22 that year, but that application was refused.

The Treharris Mini & Junior RFC clubhouse has a premises licence which it has
held since September 17, 2010, which covers the use of the club house building, and part of the area outside the club house.

Merthyr Tydfil Council’s special statutory licensing committee will consider the application at its meeting on Wednesday, April 10
