Neighbours rushed to help Blantyre shooting victim Graham Williamson as he lay dying on pavement

Neighbours rushed to save the life of a man shot in a execution-style hit in Blantyre last night as he lay dying on the pavement.

One woman, who asked not be named, said she ran to help young dad Graham Williamson, known as Kermit, after he was reportedly blasted in the back by a man on Caithness Street at around 5pm.

Neighbours and passers-by frantically tried to save the 26-year-old whilst they waited on paramedics arriving on the scene.

The local woman said: "It was horrific.

"He was just lying there with blood pouring out. My neighbour saw him falling to the ground after being shot in the back. She ran out first and the rest of us followed.

"We all tried our best save him. There was people trying to resuscitate him and we had towels trying to stop the bleeding.

"We were just desperate for the ambulance to arrive.

"His pulse was so weak and he was turning blue."

Police say Graham was rushed to Wishaw General where he later died.

The woman added: "We all thought he was dead by the time the ambulance arrived. He was lifeless."

Graham's partner, the mother to his three-year-old son, arrived home to the commotion unfolding outside her house moments after he was 'shot'.

The woman said: "The poor girl was inconsolable. She was crying hysterically. It was heartbreaking to see. There was nothing she could do.

"Minutes after she got there Kermit's mum and dad came.

"His dad drove straight through the police cordon. He was just so desperate to see his son."

Police are treating the death as 'suspicious' and believe it to be a 'targeted attack'.

A Police Scotland spokeswoman confirmed: "Officers are in the area to provide public reassurance.

"Any information about the incident can be passed to officers at the scene or via 101 or anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111. "
