Neighbours react after discovery of man's body in flats

Neighbours living close to a block of flats where a man's body was found claim police have been called six times in the past fortnight.

Emergency services were called to the scene in Feltwood Close, West Derby, at 5.30am yesterday (Sunday).

A man in his 40s was pronounced dead at the scene.

Detectives are investigating the incident as an unexplained death.

Two men, aged 30 and 26, and a 20-year-old woman from Liverpool were arrested on suspicion of murder and were taken to a police station on Merseyside for questioning.

Neighbours described seeing a large emergency services presence at the scene yesterday morning.

One man out walking his dog said: "Police were there all day yesterday and today as well. They knocked on my door to see if I'd seen anything.

"The lad who lived there was always on crutches. I'd nod to him if I passed him on the street.

"There are a lot of single men who've been moved into the flats. There has also been problems with anti-social behaviour.

"It happens all the time. We've seen emergency services called out six times in two weeks."

Police today (Monday) said the man had not been formally identified.

Another man, Andy Hubbard, said: "I knew the victim. He was waiting for a hip operation.

"He was very calm and easy going. But he was vulnerable."

Police and forensics officers could today be seen going in and out of the block of flats where the man's body was found.

They were also knocking on doors to speak to residents.

The flats are owned and run by Riverside Housing Association.

This was the second murder investigation launched within 24 hours in Merseyside, though both murders are not believed to be linked.

Just a few streets away on Princess Drive, officers were called out at around 6.30am the same day to reports a man had been stabbed in the chest.
