More and more people are being forced into self-isolation and being sent home from work as measures are put in place in a bid to prevent the spread of coronavirus.
It can be a very lonely experience and it's a reality facing much of Italy with people being quarantined as the number of deaths country from coronavirus in the country soared to 827 earlier this week.
With more than 12,000 confirmed cases, Italian Prime Minister Giuseppe Conte announced the closure of non-essential shops and bars, declaring: "The future of Italy is in our hands.
"The right decision today is to stay at home."
In a dark time for the country, writer David Allegranti shared a touching moment as residents in Siena banded together in a show of solidarity.

The video, which has been viewed more than 640,000 times on Twitter , shows neighbours singing together across a hauntingly deserted street.
David captioned the clip: "In Siena, the city to which I am very attached, you stay at home but you sing together as if you were on the street. I was moved."
As one man begins to sing from his window, he is joined by a loud chorus of passionate voices joining in as the noise echoes around the empty streets below.
The moving video racked up hundreds of replies as one wrote: "Come on Siena. Come on Italy."
Another said: "Wow, thank you for posting this. It's beautiful. Best of luck, and I wish recovery to those who are sick."
Composer Howard Goodall shared the video with the message: "As evening falls in locked-down Siena, citizens confined to their homes are singing together as if they are on the street. What a moving testament to the instinctively musical & open-hearted people of Italy."
