A street has been fondly nicknamed "Balamory" by the local community - and its all down to its colourful doors. Wilson Street in Newark is well known for its brightly coloured doors, as each terraced house in a set of 16 boasts a different colour, including pink, yellow, green, red and different shades of blue.
Whilst some doors share the same colour, no two doors in a row are the same, and those in the local area compare it to the children series Balamory, where each character had a distinctive colour of clothing that matched the house they lived in. For those visiting the town centre, it is like walking past a rainbow.
Homemaker Virginia Robinson, in her fifties, has lived on the street for more than three decades. She explained that all the doors on the now popular street used to be painted the same shade of green when she first moved there, rather than all the doors having their own colour.

Virginia said: "They were first all green, a bright green shade, maybe a bit darker, and then the land lord decided to paint them a bit more. We've had green, pink, purple, black."
She described choosing the colour as "a family decision" and loves living on the bright street, which she said "is quiet, and it's a bit like Balamory." When asked why she moved there, Virigina replied: "It's the central location, we used to work on the market and we can walk everywhere from here.
"It's just nice being in the centre of town." Further along the street is Hazel Arcaris, who has lived in the town for five years after moving from America.
When asked about the street, she said: "Everyone calls it Balamory." She explained that residents get the choice now and then of what colour they want their door to be, as the landlord will paint it every year or so to keep it all looking nice.
The 36 year old continued: "Every year or so he will paint them and ask you what colour you want your door to be. I used to live at number 12 and I picked yellow, which is why it is yellow.
"I always hear the kids coming past and their parents asking them which colour the doors are. It just makes people happy."
However, as many of the doors are shared by multiple units, the colour of the door depends on which resident is asked. Freelance illustrator, Alex Hollands, of Newark, said: "I've been here since February, about four months.
"It's good yeah, no complaints." When asked about what it was like on the street, he replied: "I didn't really know it was anything special.
"I like the doors yeah, I would rather have a bright door than a grey door." He described the street as "interesting" and didn't realise it was the residents who could choose the colours.
