Neighbours 'like the idea' of plan for building in Carlton

Proposals to extend a building in Carlton and create nine flats have been tabled.

Plans put forward to make changes to a building in Forester Street have been submitted to Gedling Borough Council.

The proposed extension is designed to create nine two-bedroom apartments.

And locals have spoken of the potential benefits.

Carer Valerie Moss, 56, who lives near Porchester Road, said: “I like this area, I do feel like it’s overlooked so new flats will bring more people in.

“I don’t think anyone else would have a problem with only nine flats, the only problem I could think of may be parking or speeding but if the flats comes with it’s own car park, what’s to complain about?”

Retired David Ward, who is 70 and lives on the road, said: "I have no objection to new flats, people need houses, I'm fine with it but it does get busy along here with traffic, especially in the mornings and afternoon as this road is a cut through."

Carlton florist Claire Travern, 35, was in favour of affordable flats.

She said: "I like the idea of new flats or houses for people and their families. I know that obviously student accommodation wouldn't be built here because it's not the place for it but it's nice to see places that aren't for students.

"I have nothing against students because they'll always be here but so will other people who need houses."

The plans have been submitted by Singh Khaira, of Five Pillars Capital Ltd.
