Neighbours kick off at plans to open a Mecca Bingo until 2am

Neighbours of a Liverpool bingo hall have raged at plans submitted by the premises that could see it open as late as 2am.

Knotty Ash's Mecca Bingo, on East Prescot Road, has applied to Liverpool Council for permission to extend its closing time past midnight up to 12 times a year.

If approved the hall could stay open up to two hours later than its current midnight closing on those occasions, with the owners saying they will provide security and CCTV to manage the events.

But neighbours have reacted angrily to the move, with some saying it could make it 'even more difficult' to live in the area.

One person said residents were concerned about noise, crime and rubbish dumping on the site.

They said: "Our concerns are that we as residents are only just managing to maintain the area ourselves, any increased litter, noise pollution and anti social behaviour would make it even more difficult to enjoy living here."

Another also alleged that the late night opening could increase trouble in the area around the bingo hall.

They said: "Anti-social behaviour is already an issue in this area and I fear this will only exacerbate (sic) the situation by facilitating later closing times."

Merseyside Police has not objected to the proposed later opening time, with Mecca Bingo.

The application doesn't specify the type of events that would be held, but they would have to fall within the limits of the premises licence.
