Neighbours heard sirens before cops smashed down door of Renfrew flat where woman's body was found

Neighbours told how they heard screeching sirens before officers smashed down the door of a flat in Renfrew where a woman's body was found inside.

Cops were called to Cardon Square at around 11.45pm on Wednesday, May 26, where they made the grim discovery of the 34-year-old's body.

A 39-year-old man was arrested in connection with the death, which is currently being treated as unexplained.

Neighbours told the Record how dozens of police swooped on the street late last night.

Eyewitnesses said officers made enquiries outside the property before breaking down the door of the ground floor property.

One local who lives in the block of flats said: "Dozens of police arrived with sirens on and they smashed down the door at the property.

"There were ambulances outside too.

"Paramedics tried to use CPR to save her life but she was already dead.

"Police then arrested a man and took him away in handcuffs."

Detectives cordoned off the area around the flat and remain at the scene.

Officers in boiler suits were seen entering the property at around 11.30am this morning.

One resident of nearby Lapwing Crescent told the Record four police cars raced to the quiet residential street and sealed off the vehicle shortly before midnight on Wednesday.

They said: "Four police vehicles were here with flashing lights and sirens on and they cordoned off the parked car.

"Police said it was connected to the Cardon Square incident."

This morning officers were continuing to make door-to-door enquiries in the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Officers in Renfrew attended at an address in Cardon Square around 11.45pm on Wednesday, May 26.

“A 34-year-old woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

“A 39-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident.

“Enquiries to establish the circumstances surrounding her death, which is currently being treated as unexplained, are ongoing.”
