Neighbours' fury as squatters stage three-day rave at disused Bristol pub

Residents have spoken out in anger after a rave at a former Bristol pub went on for three days.

People who live near to the Three Crowns in St George, which is now inhabited by squatters after closing in 2017, said loud dance music started at around 8.45pm on Friday evening and music still can be heard playing this Sunday afternoon.

Someone who lives close to the Blackswarth Road boozer, which is set to be turned into flats, contacted Bristol Live at 3pm this afternoon and said music is still playing but at a notably lower volume as some of the speakers have been removed by party-goers.

Avon and Somerset Police said they visited the property five times and 'asked the occupants to turn the music down', and arrested one man on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly.

The resident, who did not want to be named, said: "I don't have a problem with squatters or with people enjoying themselves but this is out of order.

"Music started on Friday evening and was still going this morning. It was so loud my walls were vibrating. I'm physically and mentally exhausted as I've hardly had any sleep this weekend.

"There's still music now but it's not as loud. If it starts up again later this evening I will be livid as I have work tomorrow morning, as lots of other people who live around here do.

"The police made a number of visits but every time the squatters saw someone in uniform they turned the music right down. I don't blame the police though, it is not their fault.

"They are within their rights to squat in the pub but I can't understand how they're allowed to play music at such a disruptive volume for so long. It can't be right."

The resident claimed she saw ravers vomiting, urinating and taking drugs outside the pub and was concerned for the safety of children in the area.

Another nearby resident who also did not want to be named said their weekend has been 'severely disrupted'.

Police response

A spokesperson for Avon and Somerset Police said: "Police have had a number of calls about noise nuisance at a property in Blackswarth Road, St George over the weekend.

"Officers attended the property five times between Friday night and Sunday, October 13 and asked the occupants to turn the music down.

"A 31-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly after coming out of the property and being disorderly.

"He remains in police custody at the time of writing."

The spokesperson added that Bristol City Council 'has powers to deal with noise nuisance'.

Complaints can be made on Bristol City Council's website.
