Neighbours evacuated and road closed after car smashes into corner of house

Residents were evacuated after a car crashed into a house in Stalybridge.

The smash happened in Ridge Hill Lane in the early hours of this morning (May 15).

Witnesses reported seeing police, firefighters and the ambulance service all in attendance, at around 1.40am.

Ridge Hill Lane has since been closed in both directions, between Springs Lane and Harrison Street.

Images from the scene show the corner of one of the houses completely destroyed, with rubble piled up on the pavement.

A security fence has also been put up around the house.

Tameside Council said that the road will be closed until further notice but said that anyone evacuated can now return home.

A spokesman tweeted: "Ridge Hill Lane remains closed until further notice.

"Residents who had to leave their properties earlier while the area was made safe can now return home.

Firefighters, police and the ambulance service were all in attendance, according to witnesses (ABNM Photography)

"Thank you for your patience."

Greater Manchester Police has been approached for comment.
