Neighbours describe shocking attack in Moss Side which left man in hospital

Police are investigating an alleged attack in Moss Side which left a man in hospital.

Officers were called at around 2.35am in the early hours of Sunday to Hartington Street to reports of a man suffering 'a medical episode', GMP said.

A man was taken to hospital where he has serious but non life-threatening injuries.

Two men aged 29 and 49 have been arrested on suspicion of assault.

An eyewitness, who asked to remain anonymous, gave a chilling account of how the incident unfolded.

He said it began at around 11pm on Saturday night with "really loud shouting" coming from a property.

Then at around 2am the witness heard a man making noise in the street.

"There was a lad was walking up and down the street crying, he was knocking on people's doors saying 'I think he's dead, there's blood p***ing out everywhere'," the witness said.

The witness does not believe the man managed to get any neighbours to open the door but emergency services were called.

"There were nine police cars turned up and an ambulance," the witness added.

"They carried a man out in a wheelchair, there was a bandage around his head and arms.

"It looked like they arrested at least one lad."

"It sounded like a really nasty incident.

"There's always problems at that property - it's been an absolute nightmare."

Police said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

A GMP spokesperson said: "Police were called around 2.35am on Sunday 16 January to Hartington Street, Manchester to a report of a man suffering from a medical episode.

"Emergency services attended and enquiries established he had been assaulted.

"He was taken to hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life changing nor threatening.

"Two men, aged 29 and 49, were arrested on suspicion of assault. They have since been released on bail.

"Enquiries are ongoing."
