Neighbours baffled by week long 'weird squawking' noise

Residents of a Huyton estate were left baffled by a "weird squawking" noise that had been ringing around for the last week.

A resident of the Bluebell Estate wrote in the Huyton Times Chat Facebook group asking what the weird noise was that had been leaving them stumped for a week.

They described the noise as a "weird squawking, siren like sound" which could be heard around the Bluebell Estate in Huyton in the mornings and at night.

They later said it was the "strangest, most annoying sound ever," before adding it was "horrific."

Other residents were equally as mystified by the sound - with one resident wondering if the sound could be a parrot or another bird stuck somewhere in a tree.

A second resident also felt it could be from a bird, writing: "Maybe it's a bird stuck in the house."

A third person wrote: "Put on Scouse Pets. Someone lost a pet parrot a while back and said it squawked. Have a look in trees close by. There is also a hawk so could be feeding."

Another person from a neighbouring estate also felt it could be coming from an animal, adding it sounded like a fox.

But another resident said the sound was "scary" and they worried it could be a woman screaming.

The mystery was eventually solved after someone walked past a house on Salerno Drive and heard the peculiar sound ringing out.

They wrote: "I thought I was going mad and there was some sort of baby bird squawking but it's the alarm on the side of the house."

Another person confirmed it, adding: "It's a house alarm on Salerno. I walk past it every day."

Even then, residents were reluctant to believe it was a house alarm due to the strange nature of the sound.

One replied: "I'd heard that house alarm for the last few months and it was a normal alarm sound. This is now a new squawking sound."

But one resident saw the funny side, writing: "Don't be alarmed. It is an alarm. Which is alarming people around."
