Neighbours actress Maxine Klibingaitis, 58, dies 'suddenly and unexpectedly'

Neighbours star Maxine Klibingaitis has died "suddenly and unexpectedly" at the age of 58.

The actress was best known for playing Terry Inglis on the Australian soap.

A fan page dedicated to Australian TV show Prisoner, which Maxine also appeared in, announced the news with a post.

It read: "Maxine Klibingatis 1964 - 2023. We regrettably announce that actress Maxine Klibingaitis has passed away today.

"Maxine played the much-loved character of Bobbie Mitchell in Prisoner, Terri Inglis in Neighbours and many other roles in Australian TV.

"Maxine was only 58. We send our sincere condolences to her son, Zane and Maxine’s family & friends. RIP Maxine."

The fan page also said Maxine's death was "very sudden and unexpected".

It was also insisted the announcement was not a "hoax" as it was confirmed by a close friend of Maxine's.

An additional comment added: "Just to clarify for those inboxing me, the sad news is not a hoax. A very close friend of Maxine’s called me late today.

"[They] asked me to post the sad news so that Maxine’s fans would know. Maxine had many fans."

Maxine appeared on Australian soap Neighbours as apprentice plumber Terry Inglis in 1985.

Fans will remember Maxine's character Terry marry villain Paul Robinson, played by Stefan Dennis.

Terry's storyline ended when she took her own life, which marked a first on the Ramsay Street soap.

She also played teenage punk Bobbie Mitchell in Prisoner from 1983 until 1985.

Maxine's character Bobbie faced a series of dramatic storylines on Prisoner as he character was kidnapped before she attempted to escape prison.

In 1987, the actress married TV director Andrew Friedman.

The pair welcomed a son, Zane, together.

Maxine made her last public outing in 2019, where she attended a Prisoner reunion in Melbourne.

Meanwhile, Neighbours has shared first-look shots of its new series as filming gets underway.

The much-loved soap was axed by Channel 5 last year, but was saved by Amazon Freevee following a relentless fan campaign.

The Aussie soap welcomed back a host of famous faces for the "last ever" episode last summer as the long-running drama came to an end.

Kylie Minogue, 54, had fans in tears as she rocked up in dungarees playing Charlene, with many eighties kids transported straight back to their childhood.

However sources in Melbourne claimed the pop star felt 'duped' after it was revealed Neighbours was returning.
