Neighbourhood evacuated amid 'multiple explosions' and raging fire in Bristol

People were evacuated from their homes after a van exploded into flames in Bristol.

Firefighters set up an exclusion zone after the blaze broke out in Hartcliffe last night (Friday, June 4).

Cylinders inside the vehicle were said to have caused "multiple explosions", but nobody was injured.

The blast happened at about 10.30pm and images shared on social media suggest it happened along Fulford Road, although emergency services are yet to confirm an exact location.

Brief details were shared by Bedminster Fire Station on Twitter this morning (Saturday), alongside images of the completely scorched shell of the van and what appeared to be gas cylinders.

The station tweeted: "At 10.30pm last night, #WhiteWatch responded to this van on in Hartcliffe.

"Following multiple explosions from cylinders in van, an exclusion zone was set up and nearby residents were evacuated.

"The blaze was extinguished safely."

One of the photos showed a Premier shop opposite the burnt-out van, which looks like the branch along Fulford Road.

However, the fire service did not specify the road name or any further information.

Emergency services have been contacted for further information.
