Neha Dhupia, Rakul Preet Singh, Vijay Varma sizzle the ramp at Fashion Week

Day 1 of ongoing Fashion Week in partnership with the Fashion Design Council of India had celebrities saunter down the runway for various designers on the day dedicated to sustainability. Actor Neha Dhupia walked the ramp during the INIFD Launchpad show. She looked divine in a white, swirling and multi-tiered maxi with lantern sleeves and an impressive ornate Obi belt to complete the look. The theme for the showcase was East Meets West.

Designer Anavila Misra opened The Atelier show on day one of Sustainable Fashion Day. Her collection was titled DABU and it was devoted to the beauty of the sari and it’s graceful and elegant drape, which has never been bound by zippers, buttons, or belts. The focal point of the show was the unstitch beauty of the sari and its fluid creativity. Bringing to life the drapes and glory of the sari were the DABU and print motifs that were dappled all over the 6-yard wonder. The natural dyes of ivory, ochre, sage green, indigo, madder, kashish and black with a luxurious presence of gold and silver danced in gay abundance on the yards of glorious fabrics.

Rakul Preet Singh strutted on the ramp for designer Shruti Sancheti, who showcased her collection titled Khadder. The designer is known for her relentless experimentation with Indian textiles and an easy chic sensibility, the designer trained her focus on Khadder this season - a life force in itself. According to the designer, Khadder in India, is not just a textile; it has woven itself into the very fabric of the nation by playing an integral part in the Indian freedom movement. Rakul wore an embellished crop top with a skirt featuring a front slit from the designer. She looked vivacious.

Actor Vijay Varma looked dapper in a bandhgala from designer Divyam Mehta as he walked the ramp for him during the Khadi India Collection. The designer named his collection Kacho which means raw. His collection was an coalescence of rural wall paintings, dots presented in geometrical patterns and kantha stitches. The raw textures of khadi denims and cottons were elevated with renders of kantha stitches, imprints of hand carved wooden blocks and screen prints. The coming together of scattered elements forms the unique identity of his collection.

One show that really deserve a special mention on day 1 was by Vaishali Shadangule. The collection titled Abyss, started with the colour black depicting the deepest depths of the Abyss going into colours like purple, pink, green and yellow and finally going into white which was a depiction of when we are out of the depths of the Abyss and into the light. The silhouettes were flowy yet constructed to form unconventional silhouettes as per the designers artistic interpretation. She presented wearable art in handwoven Indian textiles. The collection included a mix of gowns and various artistic drapes using our signature textures and handwoven fabrics.
