Police rush to Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley as man scales roof

Rescue teams swooped after a distressed man took to the roof of Paisley’s maternity unit.

Police negotiators rushed to the scene after he refused to come down at the Royal Alexandra Hospital.

Fire crews are offering support – with the stand-off lasting more than an hour.

NHS Greater Glasgow and Clyde runs medical services in the town.

A spokesman said: “This was reported immediately to the police.

“They are now on site with the fire service dealing with the situation.

“Our staff are offering any support required.”

The man scaled the roof around lunch time.

Dozens of cops are in attendance in a bid to talk him down.

It is not known whether the man is a patient at the hospital.
