Negotiations ongoing as Bristol Rovers remain keen on landing Liam Scales

“One or two minor details which need tidying up” are what is holding up Liam Scales move to Bristol Rovers according to Graham Coughlan.

Republic of Ireland Under-21 defender Scales is reported to have bid farewell to his UCD  teammates a couple of weeks ago with a move to League One side Bristol Rovers essentially a done deal.

But the move has stalled, however Gas manager Graham Coughlan confirmed last night he very much hopes the issues can be resolved.

Speaking to Bristol Live, Coughlan said: “If it was a done deal he would have played tonight.

“I don’t hide the fact I like Liam Scales, I think he will add to our team. I think he could become an asset. I think if we could get him in we could coach him up and do something with him. He could become a future asset, a future sale, he could do well for this football club.

“He is obviously a player we like.

“There is obviously an issue with the paperwork as we all know. There are one or two minor details which need tidying up, which need sorting out, whether we do that or not I don’t know?

“It is out of my hands now, I have passed it onto the powers that be [at Rovers] - he is a player I have identified and I liked.

“If it was a done deal he would have been here tonight,” the Irish manager repeated standing on the edge of the Memorial Stadium pitch following the Pirates’ 3-0 defeat to Championship side Swansea City.

Coughlan continued: “A lot of nonsense has been spoken in the press across in Ireland, some of them have actually quoted me but I haven’t spoken to anyone in the Irish media regarding Liam Scales.

“There are quotes upon quotes which aren’t the truth, that he was guaranteed to start if he moves here but you guys know me, I don't’ guarantee that for anybody, they have got to earn it, to work for it.

“I don’t know whether one or two people are playing games. Low and behold when it came out in the paper we were interested in Liam Scales one or two other clubs [Fleetwood] were suddenly linked so I don’t know what is going on.

“What I know is that from my point of view I like Liam Scales and if I had the opportunity to sign Liam Scales I would.”

With Coughlan reiterating last night that he wants at least a couple more players in before the transfer window closes it appears Scales’ move to the West Country could still be a go.
