An activist has filed a complaint against Deputy Prime Minister Prawit Wongsuwon and police chief Pol Gen Chakthip Chaijinda for dereliction of duty when they failed to stop former prime minister Yingluck from fleeing Thailand.
Srisuwan Chanya, secretary-general of the Constitution Protection Organisation, submitted the complaint to the National Anti-Corruption Commission (NACC) on Monday.
Ms Yingluck failed to appear in court on Friday to hear the ruling on the rice-pledging case in which she faced the neglect of duty charge, ironically the same accusation Mr Srisuwan brought against the pair on Monday. Her lawyer said she had vertigo but the court did not believe him and issued a warrant for her arrest.
Gen Prawit, who is in charge of security, later admitted Ms Yingluck was no longer in Thailand.
Mr Srisuwan said people were wondering how security and administrative officials allowed Ms Yingluck -- the defendant in a grave criminal case -- to flee the country.
“It’s common knowledge that her every move had been monitored closely by security officials earlier. They had shadowed her at all her public activities. But when the time came for the ruling, nobody knew how she left Thailand and when,” he said.
He added after this it would be difficult for people to trust security officials. They neglected their duty and might have violated the 1999 NACC law, he added.
