Police on Thursday booked a female candidate from Ludhiana for allegedly submitting a forged marksheet to Baba Farid University of Health Sciences (BFUHS), overseeing medical college admissions in the state.
This comes over two days after the varsity officials discovered that the candidate had submitted the result sheet with marks inflated. The accused scored 477 marks in NEET but allegedly forged marksheet that recorded her marks at 577.
Post uploading of the merit list of candidates by Baba Farid University of Health Sciences, Faridkot (BFUHS), officials had alleged that students who had forged the NEET marks approached the varsity and claimed that the merit list had mistakes.
A case was then registered against the accused following the complaint of BFUHS registrar SP Singh. “The authorities have learnt that it is not a single case and many other candidates might have been roaming with such fake certificates with ulterior motives,” said the officer in his complaint.
The complaint further reads: “On verifying and comparing the result sheet from the official website of NEET 2017, it became amply clear that the candidate procured a forged/fake result sheet. Instead of admitting the same as forged, father of the candidate offered money as illegal gratification for helping them out of the way.”
Registrar added that they fled the university after officials retaliated.
Ahead of the online allotment of MBBS (medical) and BDS (dental) seats in NEET counselling on July 21, the varsity has asked colleges to ensure that result marksheets submitted by candidates are checked against original documents available on the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) website.
“NEET-2017 marks of the candidates should be verified by original login on computer from the website cbse.neet.nic.in. This should be minutely matched and verified with the result card of the exam that candidates submit,” the university’s note adds.
Talking to HT, Faridkot senior superintendent of police Dr Nanak Singh, “A case of forgery has been registered. We will probe the corruption allegations and accordingly add the relevant sections.”
