'Needs to' - Nottingham Forest fans react to Carabao Cup defeat at Barnsley

Attention has quickly turned to the league, after Nottingham Forest fell at the first hurdle in the Carabao Cup on Saturday.

The Reds were toppled 1-0 by Barnsley, in a repeat of the scoreline from their last visit to Oakwell, in the penultimate game of last season.

It was not the start to the campaign head coach Sabri Lamouchi had been hoping for, as his team turned in something of a flat performance.

And Forest fans have been having their say on the result, with the countdown now on to the weekend’s Championship opener, away to QPR.

After their capitulation on the final day of last term, Lamouchi’s men are aiming to go again with a promotion push.

But a short turnaround between the two seasons left the Frenchman admitting his players were not quite “100 percent” when it came to taking on the Tykes.

Here’s what supporters had to say on social media after the game.

Cauley Woodrow’s scrambled second half goal proved the difference between the two sides.

He turned in the rebound from Clarke Oduor’s effort, in the 49th minute.

The visitors had started brightly, with Jordan Gabriel going close early on, on his full debut, and Ryan Yates drawing a save from Jack Walton.

But the Reds tailed off as the match wore on and struggled to create many clearcut chances.

“Unfortunately, it was not very positive to start like that but at least they tried. Obviously, we are not ready after just three weeks,” said Lamouchi.

“It’s not good to start the season like that but we need absolutely to not accept to lose and to change the mentality.

“Under pressure, we never find the right players at the right time and the right place.

“For me, nobody was 100 percent ready. It is not good preparation for the beginning of the season.

“We will go to QPR to try to disturb them a little bit more than we disturbed Barnsley.

“We prepared the team to be ready today but after three weeks, with the new players, it is not enough. We need to do more, for sure.”
