'Needs investigating' — Manchester United fans fuming with VAR after Arsenal penalty decision

Manchester United fans all drew the same conclusion after Arsenal received a penalty after the intervention of VAR against Leicester.

Caglar Soyuncu was adjudged to have handled the ball after Thomas Partey's header was cleared off the line by Luke Thomas in the clash at the Emirates. The officials at Stockley Park took a number of minutes to reach the decision and opted to send Anthony Taylor to the monitor, before he awarded a penalty to the hosts.

Alexandre Lacazette stepped up and fired into the roof of the net to double the Gunners' lead as they took a good step towards Champions League qualifications, ousting United to move into fourth. But with the awarding of the spot-kick, United supporters were not happy and hinted at a twinge of inconsistency from the officials.

Here's how they responded on Twitter.

It isn't the first time that there has been upset surrounding United and VAR. Bruno Fernandes, who missed the win over Spurs through illness, posted a tongue-in-cheek response to the Video Assistant ruling that Jadon Sancho was onside in the build-up to Cristiano Ronaldo's second goal.

In their FA Cup disappointment, Middlesbrough's equaliser saw the ball bounce up and strike the hand of Matt Crooks but despite the evidence, VAR allowed the goal to stand. Anthony Elanga was brought down against Watford in United's last home clash before Spurs but again there was no retrospective action from the technology.
