Need no certification from so-called 'thekedar' of panth: Sikh leader Baljit Singh Daduwal to SAD's Sukhbir Badal on 'traitor' remark

CHANDIGARH: Reacting to Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) president Sukhbir Singh Badal's "Panth Da Gadaar" (traitor of Sikh community) remark against him, Haryana Sikh leader and preacher Baljit Singh Daduwal said on Saturday that he "needs no certification from so-called thekedar (contractor) of Panth".

On the 102nd foundation day of SAD at Amritsar on December 14, talking to the media, Badal had termed Daduwal as "Panth Da Gadaar for his role in attempts to break Amritsar based supreme Sikh body Shiromani Gurdwara Parbandhak Committee (SGPC) as he worked for the formation of separate Gurdwara panel for Haryana state i.e. Haryana Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee (HSGMC)".

Daduwal held a press conference at Press Club, Chandigarh, where he said, "We will always be honoured to struggle and get law (HSGM Act, 2014) for the management of historical Gurdwara Sahibs in Haryana state. With the help of our supporting leaders, we worked hard day and night and fought a legal battle to get recognition to HSGM Act, 2014, so that Haryana Sikhs can serve in the Gurdwaras in the state."

On Badal's remark, Daduwal said, "Sukhbir Singh Badal, a so-called thekedar of Panth is giving certificates to sewadars (servants) of community while he himself is the biggest traitor of community who always committed deceit with Panth and Punjab. The list of deceits of the Badal family with Panth and Punjab is very long."

Daduwal further said, "The family of Sukhbir Singh Badal in the garb of nationalism always motivated and supported anti-national and anti-society forces. Supported the forces which caused riots in Punjab. Appointing murderer of Sikh youths Sumedh Saini as DGP, Bargari sacrilege, Chaurh Sidhwan case, Lohara case, sand, gravel, cable and transport mafia, are all given birth by Sukhbir Singh Badal." Daduwal challenged Badal for a live debate on the national channel. It is Sukhbir Singh Badal's family which misused Sikh institutions like SGPC for their political means."

Daduwal said, "Badal is saying that I am an agent of BJP and RSS, but his party ruled Punjab in alliance with BJP for a decade. We will always appreciate good works being done by any government."

Appreciating works done by Centre government under leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Daduwal said, "The government led by Narendra Modi Ji has resolved many Sikh issues including opening Kartarpur Sahib Corridor by spending Rs 130 crore, abolishing black list of Sikhs, starting ropeway project for Hemkunt Sahib at Rs 1163 crore, celebrating birth anniversary of Guru Tegh Bahadar at Red Fort, announcing to mark martyrdom day of Sahibzadas at national level on December 16, and others."

About the incident of burning chairs by supporters of Amritpal Singh, chief of Waris Punjab De in Gurdwara at Model Town in Jalandhar, Daduwal said, "The way of resolving such issues should be as per Guru's Maryada (conduct). It was not just to vandalise and burn chairs as it was Gurdwara property and Sangat's contribution. The chairs could have been used at someplace else or given to the needy. But burning them is being treated the Talibani way among the Sangat (community)."
