During this time of uncertainty and social distancing, the Stand Comedy Club are making sure that everyone across Edinburgh can still have a laugh this weekend.
On Saturday the club which has venues in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, will run a free live stream comedy show online, starting at 8.30pm and featuring the likes of Mark Nelson, Vladimir McTavish and Ryan Cullen.
Pubs and restaurants across the UK were ordered to close by Boris Johnson in an address to the nation on Friday 20 March, leaving many zero hours workers without income, and entertainment workers are hard-hit too, especially self-employed ones like stand-up comedians.
Announced today (20 March) online with a comedic Star Wars style video, the club asked for support in their time of need:
“The growing threat to the comedy and hospitality industry becomes increasingly perilous.
“Whilst the world self isolates and stocks up on bog roll, pasta and beans, a band of brave rebels at The Stand Comedy Club and Disaster Productions create an alliance to bring some laughter during such dark times.
“Join us for some much needed laughter and support us in this time of need. Help us comedy fans, you’re our only hope.”
The stream will be free to watch at https://www.thestand.co.uk/saturday-night-live-at-the-stand, however the venue are asking for donations, as it was revealed that 33,000 jobs in Edinburgh could be at risk, with the majority in the entertainment and hospitality industry.
