Nedumudi Venu, the longtime film star who won several of India’s most prestigious acting honors, has died.
He was 73.
Venu died from kidney-related issues and sepsis, CNN reported, citing the actor’s doctor. Venu had gone into intensive care Saturday after being hospitalized last Tuesday.
The actor was a three-time winner at the National Film Awards, which is India’s top movie awards ceremony.
His first National Film Awards honor came in 1990, when Venu won best supporting actor for the musical thriller “His Highness Abdullah.”
He later received a special mention honor at the ceremony in 2003 for “Margam,” and won best non-feature film narration / voice-over in 2006 for “Minukku.”
Venu appeared in more than 500 acting roles during a career that spanned 1978 to 2021.
