Here’s the latest Nottingham Forest news on Friday, 28 April, 2023.

Neco Williams injury latest

Nottingham Forest defender Neco Williams is set to miss the rest of the season after fracturing his jaw during the Reds' win over Brighton, NottinghamshireLive understands.

The 22-year-old suffered the injury during Forest's 3-1 win over Brighton in the Premier League on Wednesday. Williams was stretchered off before being taken to hospital where he is due to have surgery on Thursday.

And in a blow to the Reds' survival chances, Williams' season looks to be over with just five games left of the campaign.

It adds to a growing injury list at the City Ground after Moussa Niakhate was also taken off during the Brighton game just 14 minutes in due to a hamstring problem.

Gibbs-White reaction to chant

Nottingham Forest star Morgan Gibbs-White has become quite the fan favourite at the City Ground .

The Reds midfielder has scored four goals and provided six assists in the league since his arrival from Wolves last summer. The 23-year-old added to his goal tally in the clash with Brighton on Wednesday after scoring a penalty to wrap up a 3-1 win.

Gibbs-White has been almost ever-present in the Forest midfield since the season resumed after the World Cup break. After being left out of the squad against Manchester United in December, he has played the full 90 minutes of all but three league matches.

And fan footage shot by Reds fan Alistair West after Forest's win over the Seagulls shows Gibbs-White enjoying the chants from the home supporters.

Forest came from behind at the City Ground on Wednesday night to take all three points against the Seagulls in a 3-1 win. It was the first time in 12 games that the side had recorded a victory in the Premier League .

Both the goals and full-time whistle prompted celebrations in both the stands and on the touchline. At one point Cooper dropped to his knees in delight as the club picked up what could be a huge win in the fight against relegation.

De Zerbi’s Forest admission

Brighton & Hove Albion boss Roberto De Zerbi admitted his side deserved to lose after running out of steam against Nottingham Forest.

The Seagulls arrived at the City Ground on Wednesday night on the back of a gruelling and emotional FA Cup semi-final defeat to Manchester United at Wembley. The teams could not be separated after 120 minutes of action but United prevailed in a dramatic penalty shoot-out.

Brighton took the lead against Forest through Facundo Buonanotte’s goal on his first Premier League start after Brennan Johnson had missed an early penalty for the home side. But an own goal by Pascal Gross on the stroke of half-time followed by second-half efforts from Danilo and Morgan Gibbs-White gave the Reds a vital 3-1 win , which lifted them out of the relegation zone.
