Caitlin Clark was so close to breaking Kelsey Plum’s scoring record against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, but she couldn’t pull it off during Iowa’s historic loss. Nebraska’s in-house DJ probably didn’t help matters when they played sad trombone music as Clark missed a pair of free throws.
When Iowa traveled to Lincoln, Nebraska, to play the Cornhuskers, an assist and an NCAA scoring record were both on the line as Caitlin Clark and the Hawkeyes looked to maintain their four-game winning streak. Unfortunately, only the assist record was set and Iowa left the arena with a loss.
Jaz Shelley nailed a huge go-ahead 3-point bucket that helped seal Nebraska’s victory, and a frustrated Lisa Bluder let off an NSFW postgame rant. However, there’s a moment that happened late in the third that might have been a sign that it wasn’t the Hawkeyes’ day long before Shelley’s shot. With the third quarter winding down, Clark uncharacteristically missed a pair of free throws.
That’s when Nebraska’s in-house DJ played sad trombone music as the ball bounced off the rim.

After the game, Clark was asked about the moment but transparently revealed to the media that she didn’t even notice.
