Nebraska Lands Commitment From Son of Former Broncos, Ravens Pro Bowler

Willis McGahee IV, the son of former NFL star running back Willis McGahee III, has committed to Matt Rhule at Nebraska.

The 2024 prospect out of Columbus High School in Miami does not play running back like his dad did, but is instead a linebacker, and one of the 25 best at his position nationally.

The younger McGahee committed to the Cornhuskers over the likes of Auburn, Michigan, Tennessee and others. He announced his decision on his personal Twitter account on Saturday morning.

McGahee III is one of the top running backs in school history at the University of Miami, where he spent two seasons in 2001 and ’02. McGahee declared for the NFL draft after a standout sophomore season in which he rushed for 1,753 yards and 28 touchdowns. He finished fourth in the Heisman voting that season and was selected by the Bills as the 23rd pick in the ’03 draft.

McGahee ended up playing 10 seasons in the NFL with Buffalo, Baltimore, Denver and Cleveland, where he rushed for 8,474 yards and 65 touchdowns. He was a two-time Pro Bowler.

McGahee IV is hoping to put together a college career in his father’s footsteps as one of the nation’s top players. He is certainly creating his own path by playing on the defensive side of the ball, but has the pedigree to become a professional player if he lives up to the hype as a prospect at Nebraska.
