An investigation has been launched after a man was stabbed to death in northwest London.

Police said a second injured man found nearby was arrested in connection with the incident in Neasden on Monday night.

The victim, believed to be in his forties, was found with stab injuries on Neasden Lane North shortly after 9.30pm after police were called to reports of a disturbance.

Officers attended along with paramedics from the London Ambulance Service and London Air Ambulance.

Despite attempts by the emergency services to keep him alive he died at the scene.

The Metropolitan Police are now attempting to trace the victim’s next of kin.

The suspect’s injuries were described as “non-life threatening” but no further details were released.

Homicide detectives in the Met's Specialist Crime Command have been informed.

A Section 60 order, which gives police the right to search people without reasonable suspicion, has been issued for the surrounding wards of Barn Hill, Welsh Harp, Tokyngton, Preston and Stonebridge until 1.30pm on Tuesday.

A crime scene is in place and enquiries are ongoing, police added.

Photos on social media showed several police cars at the scene, with Neasden Lane North at the junction with the North Circular Road reportedly having been closed for a short time in both directions.
