Nearly half of the people living in Edinburgh feel 'ripped off' by their broadband provider, according to a recent survey.
A nationwide survey of 1,000 people by Glasgow-based internet service provider Brillband found 40% of broadband customers in Scotland think they are being charged too much for the service they receive from their current provider. Specific to Edinburgh, 42 per cent of locals believe that they are being charged too much.

Furthermore, four in five (80 per cent) of those surveyed think providers should be legally obligated to give customers the best deal possible.
Broadband rates this year have been driven by as much as 11 per cent having been driven by inflation with popular providers such as BT, Plusnet and Vodafone charging premiums to customers who wish to leave their contracts early.
The research has brought to light the feeling of discontent among broadband customers across Scotland. Brillband founder Duncan di Biase accusing major providers of “exploiting vulnerable households” as costs spiral.
Duncan said: "For too long, the major broadband players have overcharged and underserved their customers, driven by an agenda based solely on greed.
“The reality is there is no need for high-speed broadband to be that expensive. Now more than ever before, customers deserve to be safe in the knowledge that their broadband providers are striving to give them the best possible deals.
“We believe in giving customers the best possible service at the best rates. That’s why we only charge one, fixed price for the maximum speed possible for as long as you’re with us. That’s the way it should be – and should always be.”
Brillband is set to launch its network this month, providing customers with a fixed-rate tariff of £35 a month for a fast, 900MB connection. It has been dubbed the "Starling Bank for the broadband industry".
