Nearly £400,000 worth of cannabis plants found in small Scottish village

POLICE searching a property in a village found cannabis plants with an estimated street value of up to £373,000.

Officers executed a search warrant at a premises in Sherifflats Road in Thankerton, South Lanarkshire, at around 10.30am on Tuesday and discovered a large-scale cannabis cultivation within the building.

They are now appealing to the public for information about any suspicious activity in the area.

Detective Inspector Scott Robertson, of the Lanarkshire proactive crime team, said: “This operation underlines our commitment to the Serious Organised Crime Taskforce and the country’s Serious Organised Crime Strategy.

“However, we are appealing for information as to the circumstances of this cultivation.

“This is a significant cannabis cultivation within a busy area of Thankerton and I’m appealing to the public for information.

“Do you live or work in the area and have seen activity at the premises? Do you have CCTV or dashcam footage of the area which may be of significance?

“I’d ask anyone with information to please report it to us via 101, quoting reference 1066 of July 16. You can also call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.”
