Nearly 200 people fall ill in Salmonella outbreak linked to pork scratchings

Around 12 people are in hospital and 200 are ill with Salmonella after eating a rouge batch of pork scratchings.

Cases of people falling ill with diarrhoea, vomiting and fever after eating the Mr Porky products have been reported from across the UK.

Tayto Group Ltd says it is taking the precautionary step of recalling some Mr Porky, Jay’s and The Real Pork Crackling Company products because they "might be contaminated with Salmonella".

The Food Standards Agency says that point of sale notices will be displayed in all retail stores that have sold the specific products which have a sell by date up to February 2022.

The advice adds: "If you have bought any of the above products do not eat them. Instead, return them to the store from where they were bought for a full refund."

Rachael Newberry, 53, of London, told The Sun: “A few days after I ate them, my stomach was gurgling and I felt awful.

“I was on the toilet all that night. I have been ill for about a week now and have only just started to feel better."

Tayto Group said: “We apologise for any inconvenience.”
