Nearly 2,000 homes in Rhondda affected by power cut caused by damaged cable

Almost 2,000 properties in the Tonypandy and Porth areas were without power this afternoon after damage to a cable.

Electricity in the CF39 and CF40 postcode areas went down for around 1,800 around 3.31pm according to Western Power Distribution but within half an hour the power was back on for almost 1,700 properties.

A spokeswoman for WPD said that the cut was due to 'third party cable damage.'

The spokeswoman also added that "remaining customers will be connected to the generator but by about 6/6.30pm they will be connected to the mains."
