Nearly 1000 digital devices going to Perth and Kinross schools as parents prepare for home learning

Almost 1000 new digital devices are being delivered to local schools to help ensure everyone is prepared for remote learning.

Perth and Kinross Council has told the Perthshire Advertiser it is part of its continued effort to work with families to support learning at home.

Pupils will be taught at home from Monday, January 11 in line with national guidance.

Following the first minister's lockdown announcement, lessons will be delivered online in Perth and Kinross until February.

PKC has sought to ensure its pupils have the equipment and support needed for learning at home.

A spokesperson for Perth and Kinross Council said: "Perth and Kinross Council schools have continued to work with families to ensure that all children and young people identified as requiring support to access the necessary digital device to continue their learning at home, can receive the appropriate support.

"By the start of the new term on January 11 over 950 new iPads, laptops and probooks, will have been prepared and delivered to schools for distribution to children and young people ensuring all those that have been identified by schools are digitally included.

"We will continue to engage with schools and families to further determine any emerging need for access to devices in households as the term begins."

Questions still remain over whether or not prelims can go ahead as planned.

A spokesperson for PKC said: "Schools are considering how the changes to school attendance will impact on their plans for prelims and assessments and will make provision in line with national guidance."
