Nearly 100 drivers hit with parking fines as visitors flock to Formby

Merseyside Police have confirmed that almost 100 parking fines were issued yesterday as visitors flocked to a coastal town.

A total of 96 parking tickets were issued to drivers as police cracked down on illegal parking in the area.

This came 24 hours after the police issued 70 parking fines to 'ignorant' drivers descending on the area.

A picture shared by the Roads Policing Unit shows a van and other cars parked on a corner of a junction.

It's not the first time problem parking has created issues for Formby residents, with the area proving popular on sunny weekends.

Despite the actions taken by Merseyside Police and an apparent clamp down, one twitter user didn't think it was enough to deter future parking.

They said: "Every one will probably think the price of the ticket was worth it. For starters they saved on the car park fee and secondly the queues. Up the fines or tow away."

Formby is expected to be busy again today as the sun stays out and half term continues for the majority of the region.

Visitors were shocked by a triple stabbing that left two men and a teenager in hospital over the weekend as violence unfolded on the beach.

Following the stabbings, there has been a 48 hour crackdown in the area as police enforce a dispersal zone.
