An 89-year-old from Bolton has become an unlikely internet sensation after a video of her singing at her care home went viral.
One of the carers at Lever Edge Care Home, in Great Lever, recorded the touching video of Alice Shields singing 'Over the Rainbow', while sat in her armchair.
She performed the song in response to the 'Chase the Rainbow' campaign, which is keeping children entertained during the Covid-19 lockdown.
Alice said: "I’m always singing with residents and I like to see people join in.
"I love to sing with Dave (our painter) as he’s got a really good voice.
"I love rainbows as well. They make you smile."
The video was uploaded to the Hill Care Facebook page on Monday. Since then, it has been viewed more than 93,000 times and been shared almost 1,000 times.
Alice, who has been singing almost all her life, added: "I started singing at a young age, as my mum and dad did.
"My daughter Maxine is the best singer. She was trained in London.
"I love to sing. It makes me happy if ever I’m feeling down in the dumps. If I sing it makes me feel happy again.
"I didn’t realise my singing would get all this attention but if I am now famous that’s really good."
