Near misses that almost became horrifying accidents and ultimate driving fails

Some of the worst driving fails and accident near misses have been captured on dashcams across the UK.

The video above shows the horrifying near misses drivers have witnessed, with a shocking amount of drivers taking potentially fatal risks.

The first clip shows a black car driving straight over a junction, not even looking at the oncoming car in the busy lane of traffic, forcing the driver to stop to avoid a crash.

Another clip shows a white van mount the pavement to get around the lane of traffic ahead of them, before eventually cutting back into the lane of traffic by forcing the van in front of another car.

A third bit of footage shows a white car narrowly avoiding an accident as it attempts to take over a lorry on a bend by entering the lane of oncoming traffic.

Dashcams have become increasingly popular with drivers in the UK with around three million people now owning a dashcam or helmet cam.

According to research conducted by Money Expert, the most common reason for installing a dashcam is to catch road traffic collisions on film, which has resulted in over 5,000 cases of police action in the last 20 months.

A fifth of people have also installed one to save cash on their car insurance and almost two thirds of drivers with dashcams have used footage as part of their claim, and just under a third of these said the footage helped them prove they were not at fault.
