Neal Skupski has set his sights on an Olympic medal and more Grand Slam glory after winning the Wimbledon mixed doubles.
Skupski teamed up with American Desirae Krawczyk to beat Joe Salisbury and Harriet Dart. Salisbury had previously partnered with Krawczyk to win the preceding French Open but had opted for an all-British duo with Dart at his home Grand Slam.
And following a 6-2 7-6 victory, Skupski said: “I think we’ve got a good team with Andy [Murray], myself, Joe, Dan Evans. I think there is a good opportunity of us bringing some silverware home. So, looking forward to that. Hopefuly we have a good Olympics.”
Skupski will pair up with Evans in the men’s doubles in Tokyo before resuming his regular men’s doubles partnership with brother Ken for the rest of the season.
And after his best result at a Slam – Skupski had previously reached the semi-finals of the US and Australian Opens, he said his sights were on more major titles.
“I have been playing doubles for… eight years now,” he said. “And sometimes you doubt yourself whether you’re good enough to be at this level. But you’ve just got to keep believing.
“It just shows that anything is possible in this sport and hopefully it’s not the last time I’m in a Grand Slam final. Hopefully, there is more to come and, the more and more times I get to do that, I feel a lot more confident. I look forward to what the future holds.”
