Neal Maupay sends message to Matteo Guendouzi after he put his hand around his throat

Brighton's Neal Maupay told compatriot Matteo Guendouzi that he needs to learn what humility is after scoring a late winner.

The Seagulls forward was already in the bad books of many Arsenal players having clashed with Bernd Leno in the first-half.

The German was taken off on a stretcher but the visiting players were not about to let the incident go.

Maupay went on to score Brighton's winner in the 94th minute which bought about an angry reaction from the Arsenal players.

Guendouzi especially took issue with the striker and the two came to blows in a post match scuffle.

But Maupay had the last laugh as he told the BBC: "Some of their players need to learn what humility is, especially one of them.

"I mean he was talking the whole game, but was saying really bad things.

"I don't want to say what he said because I could be in trouble. It was in French because he is French.

"So when I scored I just needed to say, listen, that's what happens when you talk too much on the pitch."

Maupay's clash with Leno was a key moment in the contest with the Arsenal shotstopper venting his frustrations as he was taken off.

And the Frenchman admits he apologised to Mikel Arteta at half-time as he said: "I never meant to injure him (Leno) so I'm really sorry for him and wish him a speedy recovery.

"At half time I went to the manager Mikel Arteta to apologise. I never meant to injure the keeper. I jumped for the ball. I apologise to the team and to him as well. I have been through a bad injury, it is hard."
