Neal Maupay latest: Sheffield Utd transfer bid must top £15m for Brentford to consider selling

Sheffield United will have to cough up more than the £15million Southampton paid Birmingham City for Che Adams if they want to sign fellow Championship flyer Neal Maupay.

Brentford striker Maupay has just finished a brilliant season in the Championship, in which he scored 25 goals and claimed eight assists.

The Frenchman’s form has earned him plenty of admirers, with Spanish side Sevilla the latest club to show an interest.

Sheffield United are also very keen on the 22-year-old and he is a target for them as they look to bolster their squad for the Premier League.

However, the Blades have a fight on their hands if they want to bring in Maupay during the current transfer window.

Fellow Championship star Adams, who scored 22 league goals last season, has already made the jump to the top-flight after joining Southampton from Birmingham for £15m.

However, Sheffield United will have to part with more than that if they want to land Maupay this summer.

Maupay registered more assists and goals than Adams last season and Brentford are in a stronger financial position than Birmingham - meaning they can hold out for a higher fee.

The Bees dealt with strong interest from Aston Villa in January, with the Midlands club warned it could cost them £20m to sign the striker then.

Villa boss Dean Smith remains a fan of Maupay, who he signed for Brentford in 2016, but he is currently not a priority following the arrival of Brazilian striker Wesley from Belgian side Club Brugge.
